We at Holy Cross Mercy School Killarney are an urban school with over 400 pupils. We love to be active and encourage all our pupils and staff to live a happy and healthy lifestyle. We are a Health Promoting School and we were the first school in Co.Kerry to be awarded the Active Flag.
We have great association with many local sport partnerships who regularly contribute to our school programme. These include the Sporting Chance Programme of the National Learning Network in Tralee and local sport clubs and businesses in the community. During lockdown we recognised the importance to continue to encourage our pupils to remain positive and active given the difficult circumstances. School Fitness Ireland’s videos were a fantastic resource to enable us to achieve this. Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed the activities and gave phenomenal feedback.
‘For a Healthy Mind, and a Healthy Heart, Holy Cross Mercy is the Place to Start.’
St. John’s Senior School is a co-educational school located in Kilkenny city. Our school caters for boys and girls from 3rd – 6th class. We offer an extensive physical education programme, along with fielding sports teams for and competing competitively in camogie, football and soccer competitions. In recent years, rugby and cycling have become very popular also! We are extremely proud to have several past pupils playing with Kilkenny hurling teams, at both minor and senior levels.
Each year, we work tirelessly to develop the physical education that we provide and invite parents and outside agencies to support this, providing: dance lessons, soccer skills and talks from members of local sports clubs. The highlight of our sporting calendar is our Active Week each year. During Active Week, the children enjoy a fun-filled week of sporting activities.
We are so proud of our achievements to date, but it would be a dream come true to be selected as Ireland’s Fittest School!
